3rd Annual Audubon Colorado Rendezvous
It's Time to Register !!
AUGUST 25 & 26,
2006
Friday evening, and all day Saturday
Please register now for the only meeting of the year that brings together
Audubon members from all around Colorado for a full day (plus
an evening) of natural history programs, birding, important
updates on critical conservation issues, and good food and
fellowship with friends from other parts of the state. The
meeting is open to all Audubon members, and we urge every
chapter to be represented at the meeting by at least some
of their leaders and activists. We’re gathering at a
favorite location with good food and accommodations: the scenic
Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort, centrally located
in the state near Buena Vista, in the shadow of the Collegiate
Peaks.
Friday evening: Wine
& Cheese Reception and Special Kick-off Program
On Friday evening we’ll be treated
to a special presentation on the new 2007 Colorado Breeding
Bird Atlas Project by Tony Leukering of Rocky Mountain
Bird Observatory, who is coordinating the new Atlas. The field
work will begin next spring, and Tony will give us all the
details on how we can each get involved in gathering the important
field data through our own birding activities.
Saturday Morning: Birding
and New Info about Birds and Audubon Programs
After early morning birding and breakfast
on your own, we’ll gather to hear the latest information
on some key issues and programs that Audubon people are involved
in. With exciting new changes taking place in Audubon at the
national level, there are lots of new opportunities and resources
for chapters that you will want to learn about from Audubon
staff in Colorado and around the country. Lynn Tennefoss,
Director of Chapter Relations and a wealth of information
to our chapters and members, will be here to answer your questions
and to show you the new Chapter Services Website and
related chapter resources. Rob Fergus from our national
Science office will fill us in on the latest news and science
surrounding Avian Flu.
Saturday Afternoon:
Saving the Gunnison Sage-Grouse
At a special Symposium on Gunnison
Sage-Grouse, you’ll get a chance to take part in a discussion
and planning for Audubon’s strategy to conserve this
special Colorado bird and its habitats. We’ll get the
latest info from some special guests, including Leigh Robertson,
who coordinates one of the state’s grouse working groups,
and Cheryl Day of the Black Canyon Audubon chapter,
who coordinates our Collaborative Chapter project. We’ll
learn about oil & gas impacts on the species, and Sean
Saville from our DC office will help us to plan a Grassroots
strategy.
Saturday Evening Keynote
Speaker: John Vanderpoel
After a great dinner and time to soak in the hot springs,
we’ll be treated to a colorful presentation by popular
speaker and videographer John Vanderpoel, who will relate
the adventures and challenges of Making a Hummingbird Video.
Afterwards you can enjoy stargazing in the crystal clear night
air. And the next morning, there will be a final opportunity
for some local birding along some of the roads in the Buena
Vista area. Please join us for all the fun!
